When I came to death row in 1996 I was not a real big reader but in the last 8 years I`ve come to love (and DEPEND on) the ability of a good book to transport me for a few hours outside this cage I am trapped in. Over the years people have asked me if they could order books for me, and what was the best way to do it. So being the “brilliant” man I am (SMILE) , it has taken me all of these years to come up with a pretty good idea. Of course, I can`t take full credit for it. I got the idea from reading in magazines how new couples getting married will register for specific gifts at a store so they would not end up with 2 of the same blenders or coffee-pots and would instead be sure to get the times they needed or wanted for their new home. WELL… it made sense to me and sounded like a good way for me to let people know what kind of books I would like, so I decided to adopt the practice myself.

For those of you who are not familiar with Death Row and have not read about it on my site, prisoners on Texas Death Row (except for the women) spend ONLY 2 hours a day – 5 days a week outside of their cell. The rest of our time, we are trapped in these cages alone. Unlike other death rows across the U.S. we do not have access to watch T.V. or a craft grogram to help us pass our time. Our only destraction from the chaos and stress of death row is a radio… and of course reading. A lot of us will share books with other guys after we read them. I know I am not alone in sometimes spending more then TEN hours a day reading, and can sometimes finish a book in a single day. TDC does have a library, where we are allowed to check out 2 books a week, but what often happens now is that they will not pass out books for several weeks at a time, saying they are “short of staff”, which means that with out friends in the freeworld to send us books, a lot of us are stuck staring at the walls of our cage. So we ALWAYS welcome friends who help us by ordering us books to read.

I know a lot of people who come to personal websites like mine want to help in some way, but do not have the time to write a prisoner or get involved in a campaign. They would like something that they can easily do from their home, preferably over the internet. So I`ve decide to post a list of books.

If you would like to help me but can not get involved in my campaign, so me books or a magazine subscription would be wonderful.

www.bookrak.com & www.bookdepository.co.uk are really excellent places you can order books at discount prices. BOOKMARK will send us their new catalogs monthly, while BOOKDEPOSITORY offers FREE delivery world wide. For books not found on these sites, you can also order from www.amazon.com and www.barnesandnoble.com .

www.tradewindpublications.com are 1 companies that offer discount prices to many different magazines. They offer gift certificates, which allow us to order the magazines we would like.

If you do decide you would like to send me a gift of something to read, please mark the book or books once you have ordered them to help ensure the same book is not ordered by someone else. If you will leave your name and e-mail address, a email will be sent to you confirming your gift arrived, though this is optional if you would like to remain anonymous.
